Delivery
Strathfield College courses are delivered in an innovative and stimulating classroom environment. We aim to help you to demonstrate competence against the standards of each module.
The mode of training combines theory-based material and practical sessions involving small discussion groups and individual or team activities.
English students are encouraged to practise their English outside the classroom. Educational and cultural visits are organised to maximise opportunities for learning. Business and Marketing students may be required to visit, observe and consult with businesses and undertake wide-ranging research. Speakers and consultants are also invited to the College to share their industry expertise with students.
Throughout our courses you are provided with resource materials containing learner guides, handouts, additional reading materials and assessment tasks. You will also have access to the internet for research. However, you will need to buy notepaper, stationery and CD-ROMs.
Assessment
To obtain an award you need to demonstrate competence against the standards for each unit. Assessment is through a continuous series of tasks. You will be informed of the tasks at the beginning of the course and your teacher will work with you to help you reach the required standard.
Assessment strategies for Business and Marketing students include demonstration of skills, case studies, workplace projects, portfolios of evidence and student observations of business organisations.
English assessments test the four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. IELTS preparation teaches test taking strategies for an external test and EAP is assessed by a simulated university assignment and presentation.
For all assessments, you will be informed of the purpose and process of the assessment and the evidence required. You will be given feedback after assessment tasks and have the opportunity to discuss aspects of your assessment with the assessor. If you are unhappy with the assessment process or outcome, you have the right to appeal using the Strathfield College assessment appeals procedure.
